Trauma and Betrayal Counseling

Finding out about a spouse’s infidelity or hidden behavior doesn’t just hurt — it rewires how safe the world feels. The ground you thought you were standing on turns out not to have been there. That’s not an exaggeration or a metaphor; it’s genuinely how betrayal trauma works in the body and the brain, and it’s why “just talk it out” so rarely cuts it.

The same is true of trauma from earlier in life — childhood wounds, things that happened that were never safe to name at the time. Those don’t stay in the past. They show up in how you trust, how you fight, how you flinch, decades later.

How I work with this

I use Narrative Focused Trauma Care, a model developed at the Allender Center, alongside healing prayer and body-based work for those who want that dimension included. This isn’t about reliving the worst moment of your life on repeat — it’s about going back into your story with someone trained to help you find the parts that are still asking to be healed, and walking out the other side with language for what happened and a path toward rebuilding trust, whether that’s trust in a marriage or trust in yourself.

Who this is for

Spouses who just discovered betrayal and don’t know how to function today, let alone next month. Couples trying to decide whether and how to rebuild. Anyone carrying childhood trauma that’s started surfacing in their adult relationships. You don’t need to have it figured out before you reach out — that’s what the work is for.
